E-Safety
At St Andrew's Church of England Primary, we take e-safety seriously and work in partnership with parents to help children use technology safely and responsibly. For primary-age pupils, this means understanding that online spaces can feel exciting and friendly, but they also come with risks such as inappropriate content, unwanted contact, and scams. By setting clear expectations at home and reinforcing school messages, you can help your child develop safe habits that will stay with them as they grow.
Practical steps make a real difference. Please consider using parental controls on devices and apps, keeping devices in shared family areas where possible, and checking privacy settings regularly. Encourage your child to use strong passwords, never share personal information (such as full name, address, school details, or photos), and to tell an adult immediately if they see something worrying or receive messages that make them feel uncomfortable. It is also helpful to agree on screen-time routines and to remind children that not everything online is true.
We encourage parents to talk openly about online life in a calm, non-judgemental way. Ask your child what apps or games they use, who they interact with, and what they enjoy about them, while also highlighting that they should never meet online contacts in real life. If something does go wrong, act quickly: save any relevant information, report the content or account to the platform, and contact the school so we can support you. Together, we can help children build confidence, resilience, and safe digital citizenship.
